Little Things

The Lexus UX is one of the newest players in the hotly-contested compact luxury SUV scene. But it's instantly become a contender, thanks to bold styling, a comfortable yet sporty ride, and an interior that's way more than initially meets the eye. Which is exactly why we decided that it was worth a much closer look to see what makes the UX's insides so special.

Driver-Centric Experience

One tiny detail that makes a big difference is the way Lexus positioned the UX's main screen. Instead of facing straight out like most cars, it's angled slightly toward the driver, making it much easier to see without taking your eyes off the road.

Fully Digital

You won't find any old fashioned analog gauges in the UX, just a 7-inch digital display capable of showing every bit of pertinent information you could ever want to know. Move up to the F-Sport, and you get a larger 8-inch screen and a cool moving dial that changes the information on display based on what driving mode you've selected.

Keep It Simple

Despite all of this high-tech wizardry, the center console area of the UX is surprisingly devoid of excess controls that plague so many cars. Just a few buttons and toggle switches to keep things clean and easy to use.

Eye Pleaser

Instead of going with drab, boring colors, UX buyers can opt for a variety of colorful two and three-tone interior options. That includes red and black in the F-Sport, brown and black for the base and Luxury trims, and even a blue and white option if you're feeling bold.

Attractively Shaped

Take a closer look at those seats, and you'll find a variety of eye-pleasing details typically reserved for much more expensive rides. From stripes to dimples and all sorts of visual layers, this look is far from flat.

Architectural Inspiration

Like every Lexus vehicle, the automaker instilled a little bit of traditional Japanese design into the UX. This time it comes to us in the form of textured washi trim, which gets its inspiration from traditional Japanese houses and their paper doors.

Cozy Confines

The interior of the UX, overall, isn't the largest you'll find. Which is to be expected for a small vehicle. But it is rather cozy and comfortable, even if the rear hatch takes a bit of a hit from that intrusive rear window.

Silence is Golden

Lexus went to town with sound-deadening material in the UX, making it incredibly silent to ride around in. They even employed special underbody panels and special fins on the taillights to cut down on wind noise and provide a pleasantly quiet driving experience.

Removing Frustrations

The much-berated Lexus Remote Touch returns in the UX, but it features an improved interface with smartphone integration. Hopefully, this helps remove some of the frustrations Lexus fans have expressed about its touchpad in the past.
