LFA Drag Races SLR McLaren 722S In Classic Showdown
Enjoy the exotic sounds of two of the best supercars from the 2000s as they take each other on in a drag race.
Throwback Showdown
These days, supercars are just different. No longer are we blessed with high-revving, naturally-aspirated, V10-powered machines (with the exception of a couple) that caress our ears with the greatest sounds known to man. But this video from Lovecars brings back all of those feels from the late 2000s as two of the very best - the Lexus LFA and Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722S - square off for a drag race.
Legendary Lexus
The LFA really needs no introduction around these parts, as its powertrain is absolutely legendary. The naturally-aspirated 4.8-liter V10 screams to 9,000 rpm and produces 553 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque, which it sends to the rear wheels via a six-speed automatic gearbox. The LFA tips the scales at just over 3,200 pounds and does 0-60 in around 3.6 seconds.

More Power, More Weight
On the other side, we have the Mercedes McLaren SLR 722S, which is powered by a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 that produces 650 horsepower and 605 pound-feet of torque that also flows to the rear wheels via a five-speed automatic transmission. However, the Merc weighs in at around 3,800 pounds, so there's more to move, and 0-60 comes in at around 3.7 seconds.

On Paper
On paper at least, this seems like a very even matchup despite the differences between these two cars. Acceleration is very close, though the 722S is much more powerful, thanks to its added heft. Thus, prior to actually seeing the race, it's hard to pick a decisive winner. But that's why we line them up, as they say.

Easy Win
In the first race between these two titans of the supercar world, the LFA launches a bit sluggishly and never catches up to the 722S, which rolls on to an easy victory. So for the second round, traction control on the LFA is switched off with the hopes that it will help the car get off the line a little more effectively.

Drift Machine
However, all that does is turn the LFA into one heck of a drift machine, which looks cool but doesn't help it win any drag races. So, unfortunately, the SLR takes the decisive win on this particular day, though we're skeptical that would be the case every time these two line up.

Soothing Sounds
But in reality, is there really a loser in an epic showdown like this? The real winner here is us, the viewers, who get to be treated to two of the coolest cars in recent history, duking it out, engines screaming. And that more than soothes the sting of a loss, in our humble opinion.
