Sticking Around

The Lexus GS launched for the 1994 model year as the luxury brand sought to expand its lineup, adding a slightly smaller and cheaper alternative to the flagship LS. The GS went on to last four generations before it was discontinued following the 2020 model year, a move that came as consumer presence shifted to crossovers and SUVs. However, that doesn't mean that Lexus isn't still selling new GS sedans to this day.

Holding Back

In Lexus' recent sales report outlining its performance from the first half of 2022, the brand revealed that it sold a total of two new GS models during the first six months of the year. Apparently, some dealers still had new inventory sitting around collecting dust, and at least one customer was interested in it enough to buy it.

Not Unprecedented

This is a surprising revelation, but not an unprecedented one, of course. After all, certain Lexus dealers still had new LFA models sitting around for sale years after that model was discontinued, though, in all fairness, it's a desirable, rare, and expensive supercar - not a luxury sedan.

Follow Up

Lexus also sold a grand total of 70 GS sedans in 2021, so clearly, there was some inventory left over, just sitting around waiting for the right person to come along and bring one home. While some may find this strange, we aren't really surprised - after all, many of us loved the GS and would be happy to buy a new one.

Massive Plunge

In fact, many Club Lexus members were disappointed that the brand decided to ditch the GS, even if sales dictated that decision. The sedan's sales peaked at 23,000 units in 2015 before crashing to 624 in the first part of 2020 before it was axed, which is a massive drop by any measure.

Are There More?

We wouldn't be surprised to learn there are actually more new GS models out there just waiting to be purchased, which is good news for anyone looking to add one to their collection. However, in today's world, you might not exactly score a big discount, even buying a two-three year-old new vehicle.
