Putting It Down

Since the day Toyota launched its Lexus brand, the luxury automaker has been doing battle with its German rivals. That rivalry continues with this video from YouTuber Motor, which recently pitted a Lexus RC F against the more powerful Mercedes-AMG C63 S. As is often the case, however, power isn't the only variable in this particular drag race.

Power Game

As most know by now, the RC F is powered by Lexus' naturally-aspirated 5.0-liter V8 that produces 472 horsepower and 395 pound-feet of torque, which it sends to the rear wheels. The also rear-wheel-drive AMG C63 S gets by with a twin-turbo V8 that makes 503 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque.

Paper Stats

In terms of weight, both of these cars are very close. That makes for a predictable result in terms of 0-62 times, too. The RC F manages that feat in 4.5 seconds, versus 3.9 seconds for the AMG. Regardless, in the real world, those results come out a bit different.

Traction Advantage

The RC F grips and pulls hard off the line, leaving the turbocharged AMG behind. The Merc manages to catch up a little bit at the big end, but time and time again, the Lexus beats it to the line. Our hosts point to the RC F's tires as the main factor here, which handle the somewhat damp road a little better.

Trap Speeds

Regardless, both cars were slower than their noted times. The RC F took 5.2-seconds to hit 62 mph and 13.3 clicks to finish the quarter-mile. The AMG took a whopping 5.7 seconds to reach the same speed and completed the quarter-mile with a trap speed of 190 kilometers per hour versus the Lexus' 177, which is significant.

Ideal Conditions

It's a shocking result, regardless, considering the significant gap between these two vehicles in perfect conditions. But it's nice to know that in not-so-perfect conditions, the RC F can easily take down the more powerful AMG C63 S - so long as you don't go much further than a quarter-mile.
