Looking Ahead

Back in August, Lexus filed a trademark for the model name LBX. Rumors soon began to swirl that this badge would eventually grace a new Lexus SUV, particularly a subcompact crossover of some kind that would slot below the UX. And since no one wants to wait to see what that might look like, artist KDesign went ahead and created a couple of renderings of this future 'ute.

Attractive Design

We must admit, the design this artist came up with is certainly attractive. It bears all of the familiar Lexus design cues we've come to expect, like the L-shaped headlights and taillights and the spindle grille, but in a sharp little package. And we especially love the two-tone paint treatment with the black roof that really breaks up the lines and gives the crossover a slimmer, sportier look.

Many Questions

Regardless, no one really knows what Lexus is going to do with the LBX name. The trademark was filed under "automobiles and structural parts thereof," so it could be for a new model or something completely different. Also, the trademark has not been filed in America, so it could be a European-only endeavor.

Expanded Range

Most speculation points to a vehicle that shares its underpinnings with the Toyota Yaris Cross, itself another tiny crossover. And that would make a ton of sense given this SUV hungry world. Right now, it doesn't seem like automakers can make enough crossovers, as crazy as that seems.

Going Small

Regardless, that's the world we live in today. And at least in this imaginary form, the LBX would certainly fit into Lexus' lineup nicely, along with the rumored future full-size flagship SUV. While the UX is small, why not offer something even smaller and more affordable?

Solid Combination

We imagine that the LBX shown in these renderings would appeal to younger buyers, without a doubt. Throw some sporty and unique styling in with Lexus' typical luxury and reputation for reliability, and that's a solid combination buyers would flock to.

Coming Soon

For now, however, these rumors are nothing more than just that - rumors. We have no idea what Lexus is planning, and it isn't tipping its hat at the moment. But you can bet that there will be at least one or two new crossovers/SUVs added to this lineup at some point in the next few years if nothing else.
