Soon There Will Be a Lexus F Model For Everyone

Many wondered aloud why Lexus chose to forego naming the new IS 500 F Sport Performance the IS F, a question that was largely answered by the fact that it isn't quite as hardcore as that legendary model, particularly in terms of ride and handling. Lexus also stated that it planned on "elevating" the F brand to another level, creating vehicles that are highly capable on the track. And, as it turns out, that performance badge isn't going away any time soon.

Four Tiers of Performance

Currently, the only F model in Lexus' lineup is the RC F, but that won't be the case for long. The automaker didn't provide a ton of details about its plans but did recently say that it intends to expand the F brand into four different tiers of performance, which is similar to what some of its rivals, including BMW, are doing.

F Sport Design

The first tier is called F Sport Design, which is an entry-level product that mainly focuses on visual enhancements, such as unique front and rear fascias, different wheel designs, and some interior appointments to set it apart visually.

F Sport Handling

For vehicles that might not traditionally be considered for high-performance packages such as crossovers, the F Sport Handling package will elevate them in that regard with a sport-tuned suspension.

F Sport Performance

As is the case with the IS 500, the F Sport Performance moniker means suspension upgrades, visual enhancements, and in some cases, more power, as is the case with the IS 500.

Call Me F

Finally, we have F, which is the top of the food chain in terms of Lexus performance, as it always has been. Future F models will be more like the RC F Track Edition, with visual, suspension, and powertrain upgrades, along with things like lightweight composite body panels and other lightweight materials.

Muddied Future

Lexus hasn't yet detailed exactly what new products will come along in the near future that will bear these names, and the recent announcement that the brand will be going all-electric in the future muddies things a bit. Regardless, we imagine Lexus fans will just be happy to know that there are more exciting performance models in the pipeline.
