The Drive Reviews the V-8 2018 GS F

Daily Slideshow: Lexus recently went to market with its all-new 2018 GS F vehicle. Reviews are starting to come in for the $85K car and they’re mostly positive (as one would expect). One such review was just completed by The Drive's Kyle Cheromcha – the following are some of the highlights he noted during his time with the luxury sports car.

Power: Sufficient

The 2018 GS F features a naturally-aspirated, 467-hp, 389-lb-ft V-8 engine that perhaps falls just a tiny bit short when compared to its turbocharged and supercharged rivals. It is a Lexus GS after all, and though the F at the end means performance, the big luxury flag bearer is far from a driver's car. The car’s eight-speed transmission might not be the quickest, but it's smooth and it gets the job done well.

Driving Experience: Calming

Which brings us to what the GS is really good at: Comfort. Cheromcha notes the GS F is a very comfortable vehicle to drive, specifically, the V8-powered GS F, which almost seems to be begging for ever-faster revolutions with its peak horsepower arriving at 7,100 rpm.

Handling: Impressive

The GS F was tested out on the roads of a mountain in Cheromcha’s review. He noted that one of the car’s more impressive features is its “torque-vectoring rear differential, which can distribute power between the wheels and tuck the 4,100-pound bruiser into the turns much like the RC F coupe it shares that engine with.” Cheromcha notes he never felt out of control when driving the car around bends and turns, and that this was due largely to the car’s ability to communicate its limits to the driver.

Cabin Space: Great for Daily Use, not for Camping!

The reviewer took this opportunity with the GS F to take a camping trip to the back roads. However, with the car’s rear seats are locked in place and not capable of folding down, Cheromcha was limited to the trunk space to store his gear. Of course, the seats are too nice to risk leaving your luggage on.

Interior: Classy

Cheromcha describes the interior as classy, with expensive-feeling touch points all around. He does point out, though, that before you begin driving, you should take some time to adjust the joystick-based infotainment system; as it’s a bit klutzy to deal with while driving.

Overall, the GS F is an impressive automobile that combines luxury and performance almost perfectly and characterizes the best of Lexus in many ways. For the full review visit The Drive.
