Hunting for Value

With the prices of new and used vehicles still rather high by historical standards, finding a reasonable deal isn't exactly an easy endeavor. However, there are still some vehicles out there that can be had for reasonable prices - and we aren't just talking about models with questionable reliability or other concerns, which is precisely what iSeeCars' list of the best new cars for the money aims to highlight.

Methodology

To come up with this list, iSeeCars looked at 8.3 million new vehicle transactions that took place between September and December 2023, along with the odometer readings of around 181 million used vehicles from the company's Longest Lasting Cars Study. This produced some interesting results, along with good news for those in the market for a pair of Lexus utility vehicles.

Lexus GX460

First, we have the Lexus GX460, which is on the cusp of being replaced by an all-new, redesigned model with significant changes. Regardless, the old GX remains a solid target for those who can find one lingering on dealer lots, according to iSeeCars. With an average MSRP of $65,455, the GX460 can travel 219,727 miles on average, which equates to a cost of $2,979 per 10k miles - good enough for 13th place on the list of the best mid-size SUVs for the money.

Lexus RX350

The GX was joined by another Lexus utility vehicle - the RX350 - which is relatively fresh off a redesign of its own. The RX350 ranked just behind the GX460 in 14th place in the mid-size SUV/crossover segment with an average MSRP of $60,080 and an average lifespan of 201,179 miles - or $2,986 per 10k miles. Overall, both Lexus models came in lower than the segment average of $3,021 per 10k miles.

Hard to Find

"New car prices keep climbing, which makes finding the highest value models more important than ever for buyers," said iSeeCars Executive Analyst Karl Brauer. "By identifying cars that combine the lowest purchase price with the longest lifespan, we’re helping consumers who want to maximize their car-buying budget. Both luxury and mainstream brands offer strong value in the midsize SUV category. If you’ve got a favorite SUV brand it’s probably represented in this segment."
