Back to the Past

There was a time, not long ago, when Lexus didn’t have the sporting aspirations of a Track Car. The badge on the front stood for reliable luxury, and that alone. A time when the “German engineering” was not a term of endearment, but rather one that reeked of unreliability and unsubstantiated claims of dependable opulence. Those days may be in our past, but we can still have a glimpse at what once was with this prime example of an LS400 that still looks clean enough to be in a Lexus dealer.

This Car is Clean

The car in question is a 1994 Lexus LS400 with extremely low miles, only 4,972 on the clock. Originally purchased new in Michigan by the sister of a mechanical systems consultant, he eventually acquired the car from her and now has a Florida title. Despite the original salt infested home of Michigan, the car was stored in a temperature-controlled garage every winter, and therefore, has zero rust. When I say zero rust, I mean zero. Take a look at the underbody and gaze at what a Lexus looked like when it rolled off the factory floor.

Powertrain

Looking under the hood, the engine bay looks as clean as the day it left the dealer lot. And all those years later, this motor hasn't seen enough wear and tear to be missing any of original power.

Memories

I can literally smell the leather of this car, I can hear the creaking of the plastic cupholders that strained to hold even a plastic water bottle. I remember the switches and buttons have a satisfying motion that feels good to the touch, and there are ashtrays in the doors. Ashtrays in the doors! You just don't see that anymore.

All the Necessary Equipment

The Champagne Beige Metallic (4K7) is matched with the Taupe leather interior. Not a day went by you didn’t see a Champagne LS400 rolling down the street. A better color couldn’t be on this time capsule. The car, of course, also comes with all the owner's manuals, spare tire, jack, tool kit, first aid kit, and all sets of keys, including the valet key (another classic representation of the car's age).

Service History

The LS400 comes with a clean title and handwritten service records organized by year and by category. The records are broken down into several categories; operations, storage, activate, battery maintenance, cooling system, and oil and filter service. Everything is documented down to the type of tool that was used. When this in depth of documentation is involved, any buyer can be certain all necessary work was done correctly.

Look Down Memory Lane

Low-mileage cars give us a glimpse at what once was. They offer us the cars we always wanted or even ones that we once owned, in perfect condition. This Lexus brings me immediately back to my own past and my experiences in Japanese luxury cars of the early ’90s. Though admittedly, none of mine were ever as well kept as this one. What memories does this LS400 bring back for you?
