New Concept

As Toyota executes its long-term electrification project, more and more concepts and production vehicles with electric driving capabilities are being introduced. The latest of such Toyota products to make its way to the States is the BZ4X concept. The SUV appears to be of a similar size and package as the RAV4. And its styling takes cues from the top-selling crossover as well.

First Time in America

The BZ4X was first unveiled in China a couple of months back, but the US is now getting a close look at it as well. The vehicle remains a concept, though. And the manufacturer hasn't revealed any further details about it since the SUV's first appearance in Shanghai. All we really know about it so far is that it is developed in conjunction with Subaru, and over Toyota's e-TNGA platform.

Styling

While the BZ4X remains expectedly conventional in its silhouette, Toyota designers have made an effort to help distinguish the looks of the concept car with outside-the-box styling elements. The front and rear fascia has interesting new features that combine Toyota's established DNA with the characteristics of an EV and a slightly more rugged feel.

Production-Ready?

We could very well be looking at the future in this concept. The RAV4 is the best-selling passenger vehicle in America, so it would make sense that a full EV version of the same package would take over in sales in the coming years. Plus, the concept looks to be very close to a production-ready model.

Tried and True

On the inside, the BZ4X concept shows a fresh new look and feel. The instrument cluster has been placed further away from the driver. And while the dashboard features a cleaner and simpler design, Toyota isn't quite sold on the idea of getting rid of buttons. And they have a convincing argument for this choice. They want to maintain the product's reputation for reliability. And that's why they'd rather stick to the tried and true formula.

Things to Come

The center console of the concept SUV shows the presence of a slew of buttons, giving it a more tactile feel. With plans to put the concept into production next year, expect Toyota to begin sharing more details on the EV in the coming months. The company's future plans involve the introduction of 15 EV models, so they'll want to get things moving in the next couple of years!
