1. Bargain Lexus SUV

Depreciation is usually a bad thing in the automotive world. That is if you tend to buy new vehicles from the dealer lot. But for those seeking out used car bargains, there are plenty of opportunities out there. None greater than this 1999 Lexus LX470 that popped up in a New Haven, Connecticut Craigslist listing recently. For a mere $5,000, somebody can go home with a luxurious 'ute with serious off-road chops. And it isn't exactly some ragged out beater, either.

2. Underrated and Unappreciated

For starters, this is one seriously clean looking LX. The owner, who claims to be the second, says that it runs and drives perfectly. So what's the catch? Well, the Lexus LX, in general, seems to be pretty unappreciated in the world of luxury SUVs. Things like Range Rovers fetch big money even in less than ideal condition, and they're not nearly as reliable as the LX. For those of us in the know, this is a good thing, obviously.

3. But There's a Catch...Maybe

There are some caveats here, of course. This LX shows 230,000 miles on the odometer. And there's 200k+ miles worth of wear on the interior, particularly on the driver's seat. But this is to be expected. And considering how reliable these things are, the mileage isn't a deal breaker. Especially when you consider the fact that the 2nd gen LX is based on the legendary Toyota Land Cruiser, with which it shares many components.

4. Barely Broken In

Still, we'd wager that the 2UZ-FE V8 still has plenty of life left in it. The 4.7-liter V8 produced 230 hp and 328 lb-ft of torque in this configuration, good enough to tow up to 6,500 pounds with the optional tow package. And according to the current owner, you won't find any warning lights. Maintenance has been completed as suggested, and it's even emissions certified in Connecticut until 2019.

5. Do It All - Cheaply

If you're in the market for a cheap yet reliable and capable vehicle, you won't find much better than a used Lexus LX. Full-size SUVs with these sorts of amenities aren't exactly affordable, and new ones arguably aren't as tough, either. So go ahead and jump on a good, clean Lexus LX if you spot one locally. Let's just keep this little secret to ourselves, shall we?
