Daily Slideshow: What Do Forum Members Hate?

Club Lexus members are a reasonable and knowledgeable bunch, but that doesn’t mean everyone loves everything under the sun.

Misplaced Humor

In the words of the sadly-mortal Frank Zappa, here is our Warning/Guarantee. Actually, just the title Warning/Guarantee is Zappa, the rest is ours—which brings us to the first thing forum members are not wild about, humor from the Curated Content Editors. It's your, the members', forum, so humor from members is not only tolerated but welcome. However, when it comes to the guys behind the curtain making jokes... if you wanted jokes you'd read Dilbert or the cartoons in The New Yorker. Forum members seek the free exchange of information and ideas and sometimes jokes paint a hue on ideas that aren't to everyone's liking. So we'll try to cut it out for at least the rest of this slideshow.

But about that Warning/Guarantee. We haven't surveyed every single forum member about their turn-ons and turn-offs, and even if we did, there are always exceptions. So this list should be no means be taken as a definitive document. Think of it as a diversion from the Top 10 Things Your Lexus Needs and 2030 Lexus Electric Line-up Announced posts. And, in case it's not obvious—please tell us what we missed.

Stance

Some forum members stance, some don't. Some are vocal about how silly they think a heavily-slammed and stanced Lexus looks. We have a hunch it's generational. Younger members grew up with the import culture in full swing, modding cars in completely original ways, and in new ways every few years. Is stancing practical? Is it less practical than having a GMC blower sticking out of your hood? Maybe not but something about the combination of extreme geometry on an extreme luxury sedan strikes a chord with both sides.

Errata

No one likes mistakes. Factual errors are confusing and completely not helpful. Of course, they are human also, and our human forum members point out mistakes in a variety of ways, usually helpfully. That's actually one of the most valuable functions of a forum—helping members get the good, reliable information they need to make decisions and tackle projects. The internet has a way of propagating bad info, but forums are where the bad info goes to die.

Repeats

Another way forums function is in policing unnecessary repetition. If something has been talked to death in another thread it's a good bet someone will direct not-really-new conversation on the same topic back to the original thread. Curated Content Editors sometimes post stories members may have read about somewhere else. It happens. We read the same sites you do but we also like to bring that info to the Forum for those members who want one-stop shopping. Hopefully, we add a little value, and not too much humor, in our presentation of same.

Bought Builds

Luckily, Club Lexus members are a resourceful bunch. Actually, it's hard work, not luck, that make members' builds possible. Other forums are full of pictures of custom and swapped cars build by specialty shops then sold soon after at auction. In other words, commerce. While such cars are sometimes impressive they aren't as personal as a personal project. Club Lexus is for devotees, ones with curiosity and skill.

Outbrand Swaps

Like turn-key customs, off-brand-engine-into-Lexus swaps aren't as common as they are across other brands so Honda-on-Lexus crime, or Nissan or Mitsubishi, doesn't really rear its ugly head here. Swaps of an LS flavor are not infrequent, and not everyone agrees with them, but until Lexus produces a compact 6.2-liter crate engine with gobs of torque, GM V8 swaps will remain a fact of life, especially for drifters, and forum members are mostly okay with that.

Now it's your turn. Remember, hate isn't the opposite of love, indifference is.
