What Does Lexus Have in Store for "Senses Electrified"

For the 13th year in a row, Lexus will take part in Milan Design Week which many consider to be the world’s largest design exhibition. While the luxury carmaker’s participation in the event is nothing new, the way in which it went about revealing its commitment was certainly noteworthy.

What was so special about the announcement?

For this year’s event, Lexus is working with a world-renowned spatial laboratory, Loop.pH. Together, the team will present a vision of an electrified future where transportation both engages and stimulates the senses. More specifically, the partnership will look to create a vibrant, immersive experience that draws its inspiration from the vision of "LEXUS ELECTRIFIED" and the LF-30 Electrified concept car, which will be on display.

What is this LF-30 Electrified car you speak of?

In case you’re unfamiliar, the Lexus LF-30 Electrified Concept car made its world premiere at the 46th Tokyo Motor Show 2019. Its exterior styling has been channeled into artistic qualities that take on a futuristic form, and an interior that naturally weaves in autonomous driving and other new technologies. Of course, performance is the foundation of all Lexus Electrified components, and so the LF-30 will feature all of Lexus’ latest technology in HEV systems.

The LF-30 Electrified sounds nice, but will it perform?

According to Lexus, the car will feature four in-wheel electric motors to afford the driver precise electric motor control for instantaneous adjustments that are otherwise not possible with a more conventional vehicle. Furthermore, the LF-30 Electrified will employ numerous advanced concepts, including a new-concept cockpit based on human-centered design philosophy, a steer-by-wire system, and much more.

Why’s Lexus so focused on pushing this “Electrified” concept?

To say Lexus is “all-in” on this concept would be putting it mildly. The “Lexus Electrified” is meant to position Lexus as a leader in the future generation of all electrified vehicles. By 2025, the company plans to have available electrified versions of all its models, with the goal being to have sales of electrified vehicles outpace those of conventional internal combustion engine models by this time too. The LF-30 Electrified concept car is meant to serve as the total embodiment of the “Lexus Electrified” vision.

Let’s get back to what’s going on at Milan Design Week

According to Loop.pH founder and director, Mathias Gmachl, Lexus’s “Senses Electrified” event at Milan Design Week will lead guests “…on a journey through a series of immersive environments that reveal the perception-amplifying possibilities of electrification.” The event will be now held on June 15th at Superstudio Più in the Tortona district, which is right in the middle of Milan Design Week.
