Why Are There 12 Leftover Lexus LFA Supercars Still For Sale?
The LFA was awesome, and expensive, yet it sold out immediately... Or did it? Recently it was revealed that 12 North American spec LFA supercars are officially still unsold. Click and find out why.
The First Lexus Supercar
Lexus made waves when it officially debuted the LFA, its first ever supercar, in 2010. The carbon fiber LFA was powered by a high revving V10 which sounded like a Formula One car and rivaled Europe's best supercars for power. The $375,000 car had a limited run of just 500, and 178 were brought over to the United States by the time production ended in 2012. Recently, news broke that of those 178, a dozen still haven't been sold and are listed as "dealer inventory."

Where Are They?
After some further digging, all 12 unsold cars were accounted for at nine dealerships across the United States. If you're interested in checking these out in person here is the full list:
- Lexus of Pembroke Pines, FL: Three white, one black
- Balise Lexus, MA: Race Yellow Nürburgring edition
- Hilton Head Lexus, SC: White
- Dolan Lexus, NV: Black
- Lexus of Arlington, IL: Yellow
- Rohrich Lexus, PA: White
- Lexus of Woodland Hills, CA: Black
- Lexus of Richmond, VA: Silver
- McGrath Lexus, IL: Orange
What's The Deal?
It has been reported that all of these cars were purchased by the owners of their respective dealerships and have under 1,500 miles on them. What you're probably thinking then, is that the cars are technically sold and, you're absolutely correct. However, these vehicles are still reported as unsold by Lexus due to a technicality; because the warranties were never started on these 12 units, they still count as unsold units.
There May Be More
Many of you may be thinking that you've seen an LFA at a Lexus dealership and it wasn't listed on the list earlier. Often when you visit a Lexus dealership you may see LFAs sitting in showrooms as display piece, but they may have been titled, and registered, and had their warranties officially started by the dealer. What this means is that technically there may be more than 12 unsold LFA's in the US, with the only difference being that they have had their warranties activated.
The Fate of These 12 Cars
Given that this was Lexus's only supercar (so far), and the extremely limited quantity, there is naturally a pretty big demand behind these 12 unsold cars. However, these cars aren't really listed for sale at the moment, and it looks like the owners of these dealerships want to hold onto these cars. While that is pretty upsetting, what's worse is that these cars aren't being driven and enjoyed. Surely the cars are turned on from time to time to make sure they are still running, but the low mileage is a clear indication that these cars aren't being used in the manner intended, on a winding road or racetrack. The Lexus hand-built V10 revs all the way to 9000 RPM, producing one of the best notes that any factory car has ever produced. The LFA isn't the fastest supercar or the best looking, but that doesn't detract from how brilliant it truly is.
Do you know of any more?
I have personally seen one of the listed un-sold units in person, the black example at Woodland Hills Lexus, and was told it belonged to the owner. That was back in the summer of 2012. Do you know of any more unsold LFAs, whether on the list or not? Leave the locations down in the comments below.
